Today we review a watch from newcomer Abingdon Watches, a company founded by a female pilot who couldn't find a watch that she liked for flying. First off is the Jackie model:Miyota FS20 Quartz chronograph with date.Internal-bezel E6B, operated by the crown at 8 o'clock.Lumed hands and indices.At 125g and 41mm across, the Jackie is on the larger side for women's watches, but certainly quite wearable. Here you can see the screwdown caseback with protective sticker still in place.Water resistant to 50m (165ft).64 cubic zirconia stones on the bezel.Mother of pearl dial, available in pink, green or white.Oyster-style bracelet, polished center links, hollow end links, snap-lock clasp with fliplock, and 4 micro-adjustments.41.5mm across by 12mm thick; 125g with all bracelet links.Stainless steel case.Mineral crystal.Please read on for the full review and pictures. The Abingdon line was started by pilot Chelsea Welch, who wanted an aviation watch styled for women. The Jackie is just that, with the E6B inner bezel,  luminous hands, stopwatch, and anti-glare-coated crystal. Stylistically, the outer bezel of cubic zirconia is quite tasteful and somehow manages not to distract from the functional dial.The Jackie model is the largest and heaviest of the current product line, in part due to the well-made bracelet. It sports flat Oyster-style links, with a polished center section and a well-made feel. The clasp snaps, with a fliplock to keep it in place, and four micro-adjustments for incremental sizing to fit. As a former pilot myself, I can testify that using a bezel E6B in flight is impossible without an autopilot, and tricky even with one due to its small size and the vibration levels of a piston-powed aircraft. Realistically, you only use the wrist one as a backup to your preflight calculations, or if your computers fail. This review is of a watch with a minimalist design, the Stowa Marine Original Limited Edition II. Part of a series of 120 (of which 80 were sold in the US) the Limited Edition looks almost identical to the regular Marine Original Black with Arabic numbers.Specifications:Handwinding Unitas 6498 movement (time only -- not even date).Applied metallic 12 instead of painted numerals (as with the normal Marine Original), and a serial number under the subseconds dial.Double-domed sapphire crystal, and sapphire movement cover.41mm by 12mm stainless steel case, brushed finish, 85g.Hand-stictched leather strap with pushbutton signed double deployant clasp.Signed 7mm crown (non-screw-down).Read on for the full review. The Stowa is quite a bit different from my usual dive-watch fare, and wearing it requires an appreciation of what I'd call restraint. The only thing on the dial is a small brand name, and even the caseback limits itself to etched text around its thin bezel. The case is just large enough to hold the movement, originally designed for pocket watches, with a thin bezel and railroad-track minute and hour tracks. The brushed stainless steel case hews to the same unobtrusive theme, superbly finished but understated. The movement has Geneva stripes, swans-neck balance, and etched-and-colored Stowa logo. Flip it over, and there's a visual feast of color and movement waiting for you. Blued screws, vivid rubies, and the brass-colored balance wheel whizzing away.The dial is beautifully printed and very crisp. The applied 12 is only noticeable at close inspection; in most light it looks like the others. The serial number at six o'clock is minuscule. The subseconds dial is circular grained, but you need a magnifier to see it. The printing is very well done with a san-serif font adding to legibility.Timekeeping has been superb -- within two seconds per day.
